The Art of Procrastination

Whats the deal with this Procrastination thing?
Perhaps you absolutely love to make art, but the threshold you need to get over, to actually start doing it, seems sky high.
20141007 laundry
Your laundry gets folded oh so neatly, all windows are cleaned, your art tools are stored and archived in alphabetical order, your books now color-coded on the shelves... but still, you didnt put one single pen or brush stroke on your paper.
Why?
A friend of mine told me about her new resolution. She decided on it, after a very relaxing holiday. She said: "you know what? I am always cleaning my house in the weekends, but I want to enjoy my weekends and be free to do whatever I feel like, just like the feeling you have on vacation every day."
She came to realize that a clean house is important, but downtime is so much more important. Just sitting down and read, taking an afternoon nap, or going for a ride on her motorcycle. Thats what its about. Its okay to let the laundry basket overflow every once in a while. Or to leave the dishes in the sink when its one of those beatiful sunny fall days. Its not gonna kill you. As long as you, instead, do what you love.

Procrastinate on your chores. Make Procrastination work with you, not against you. Stop self-sabotaging your limited art time!
And in fact, its likely that the mess you are making, could even be a great excuse to sketch!

What do you procrastinate on, and how? How could you turn it around?

A little experiment today:
I got inspired by my friend Sandy, who mentioned cling foil could make fun patterns when you wrinkle it over your wet watercolour wash. Of course I had to try it out!

Thanks for the tip, Sandy!

Next week Ill add a fun drawing on this background. In the meantime,

Just one more Doctor left to do I think...

Doctor Who The Slitheen

The Slitheen

Its a Whosday!

When Doctor Who first came back (referred to as "Nu Who") with Christopher Eccleston, I caught the "Aliens of London" episode... While the "false-flag alien crash in London designed to spread fear and consolidate power for the government-disguised Slitheen usurpers" storyline was really interesting, the execution was rather goofy. So much so that it kinda turned me off of Doctor Who until a friend got me to try out the newer Matt Smith Doctor, and I was hooked from then on. Im able now to go back and appreciate the Eccleston stuff in context, even the Slitheen episodes. At any rate, after a long wait, here they are.

A couple of pieces from some great contributors as well today, Daniel has done a great job on "Bucky Barnes" from the Captain America movie;

Ximo also has done something to cool share today, its Hulk-Thing!

The square around the corner

It was such a sunny day, and I hadnt been outside yet. Working on workshop material and a commision. Didnt have much time, but needed a break so I walked to the square around the corner, sat down on a bench and sketched the view. Then after 20 minutes or so, my alarm went off and I needed to pack it up and go to the meeting I had planned next. I felt refreshed and warmed by the sun, and my mind was emptied and reset after concentrating on the electric lines (for the trams), drawing in just enough detail to indicate tree leaves and buildings. Nice.

The Avengers Movie Black Widow

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson Avengers Movie Version)

This Avengers movie is really ramping up, and even though Ive not seen it yet, I hear really good things about it. At any rate, heres an Avengers movie Black Widow to add to the collection!

Also today is some great Punx-style Mass Effect/Shepard fan art by Mitch. Nice!

I also wanted to give a couple of deserving shout-outs today, one for a teacher named Anthony - antsict.wordpress.com - who let me know about his great idea of using Doctor Who characters from Springfield Punx to illustrate points in his teaching for the kids and as labels around the classroom! Cool, right?

The second shout-out is to Connor from http://connorstbbtblog.blogspot.com/ who passed along some great ideas as far as characters for Springfield Punx that Id like to get to at some point. Thanks Connor!

Anyway, thats it, thanks for reading this post for today, now go outside!

Light Part 3 The approach

Some friends have asked me to see some process while painting, well here I show you my approach for it, it doesnt mean I do every paint with this way, I try to variate to find more possible solutions, but anyway, here the painting was taken from a photo again but I took more time with this one (6 hours)
Just 1 Layer (There is no neccesity of use more really)
You can see the different result and is natural, because the more time you apply in something the better it will get, no tracing were done and even sampling in the photo, at the end I color corrected the tones to match the image but thats it. Hope it clarify some questions!
